Bert and his troll brothers can be seen during one of the earliest events in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
While the trolls mull over what to eat for dinner they encounter our hobbit hero and his party. Before they feast on the Hobbit and the Dwarves, Bilbo uses his cunning wit to stall the hungry trolls till dawn turns them to stone.
