Griphook was a goblin from Gringotts Wizarding Bank who worked to help Harry Potter break into the Lestrange vault for a Horcrux, in exchange for Gryffindor's Sword. However, his distrust of wizards led him to betray the trio, believing they would not give him the sword after he helped them steal Helga Hufflepuff's Cup. This betrayal ultimately led to the massacre of the other goblins by Voldemort, and Griphook's own death at Malfoy Manor.
