Spectre, one of the DC Universe’s greatest supernatural heroes, was created by Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily and first appeared in More Fun Comics #52 in the 1940s.

When created in 1940, Spectre was police officer Jim Corrigan, who had returned from death with a mission to punish corrupt souls. Redesigned in the 1980s, the Spectre is more than Corrigan’s alter-ego. He is an independent entity that needs a host to become physically visible.

The Spectre was originally an angel named Aztar, who joined Lucifer’s rebellion but repented. As punishment, he came to represent Divine Wrath. Among other things, the Spectre has on his resume the murder of the firstborn in Egypt.

His powers are basically the same as those of an angry God. He is omnipresent, controls matter and energy, materialises creature objects. He does not kill innocents (not anymore), and few creatures in the universe can hurt him.
